She Can’t See the World—But She Taught the World How to Look

Some souls don’t need eyes to understand love.

When Cory Gonzales first came across a photo of a small terrier mix online, he felt an instant pull. Excited, he showed it to his mother.

“Oh my god, mom, look at this dog!”

She paused for a moment before gently responding,
“You do know she doesn’t have eyes, right?”

To Cory, that fact didn’t matter at all.

What he saw wasn’t darkness.
He saw personality.
He saw resilience.
He saw Puddin.

A Puppy Who Lost Her Sight—Not Her Will to Live

Puddin’s life began with a tragedy rooted in human neglect.

When she was barely a month old, a neighbor in Texas noticed something was wrong. The puppy’s eyes were severely infected—likely caused by a minor injury that could have been treated easily. But her owners waited. And waited.

By the time help arrived, the infection had spread beyond saving.

When authorities attempted to intervene, the owners refused to surrender the puppy. What followed was a prolonged legal battle led by the SPCA of Texas, a fight to save a life that never should have been endangered in the first place.

When Puddin was finally rescued at six weeks old, the damage was catastrophic. Her eyes were destroyed and causing constant pain. To save her life, veterinarians made the heartbreaking but necessary decision: both eyes were removed, and her sockets were closed permanently.

She entered a world of darkness—before she had ever truly seen the light.

Learning the World Without Sight

Puddin spent nearly a month recovering, relearning how to exist without vision. When she was finally cleared for adoption, many people admired her story—but few believed they could handle a blind dog.

Cory never hesitated.

At the shelter, staff offered one piece of advice that would define Puddin’s future:

“Don’t treat her like a blind dog.”

So Cory didn’t.

Instead of limiting her, he taught her.

Training That Built Confidence, Not Fear

Puddin attended puppy school with slight adaptations:

  • “Up” and “Down” cues for stairs — now she instinctively lifts her paws higher, anticipating changes in terrain

  • Scent-based games, like hide-and-seek, strengthening her independence

  • A gentle “watch out” command to guide her safely during walks

Puddin wasn’t fragile.
She was learning.

And she thrived.

A Normal Life—Just Experienced Differently

Today, Puddin lives a full, joyful life.

She plays fetch using sound.
She naps in sunlit rooms she can’t see—but feels.
She runs at the dog park alongside her best friend, Murphy.

Most importantly, she lives without fear.

Puddin doesn’t know she’s “blind.”
She only knows consistency, routine, and love.

More Than a Rescue—A Lifeline

Cory had Puddin trained - or attend 'puppy school' and the pup seemed ready to take her first day on

Over time, Puddin became more than Cory’s dog.

As a graduate student navigating stress and uncertainty, Cory found that Puddin grounded him. Her dependence gave him purpose. Her joy gave him balance.

“She needs me,” Cory says.
“And somehow, I think I needed her just as much.”

Today, Puddin has over 150,000 followers online. People from around the world follow her journey—not out of pity, but admiration.

She isn’t an inspiration despite her blindness.
She’s inspiring because of how fully she lives.

What Puddin Teaches Us

Puddin’s story isn’t about loss. It’s about perspective.

  • Special-needs dogs don’t need saving—they need understanding

  • Disability doesn’t erase joy

  • Love adapts faster than fear ever could

The people who neglected Puddin took her sight.
But they couldn’t take her future.

Today, Puddin lives in a home filled with positive vibes only, proving that even in total darkness, a soul can still shine.

She may not see the world—
but she taught the world how to look.
