The Moment One Dog Changed Everything
Six years ago, Bruno Jelovic had no connection to rescue work.
He was a tattoo artist.
His world was design, ink, and clients—not shelters, not abandoned dogs, not the weight of hundreds of lives depending on him.
Then came Mia.
A small French Bulldog.
And somehow—
That was enough.
Through her, Bruno saw something differently. Not just what dogs are—but what they feel. Loyalty. Sensitivity. The quiet way they depend on human care.

When One Rescue Became a Mission
Bruno didn’t start with a large plan.
He started with one decision.
To help.
He founded Save The Dogs BiH—a nonprofit built on something many would consider unrealistic:
Rescue dogs before they disappear into overcrowded systems.
Pull them out before they become just another number.
The first dog he saved from a municipal shelter was named Embolo.
That moment—when Embolo left confinement behind—wasn’t just a rescue.
It was proof.
Proof that change could begin with one life.
Building a Place Where Fear Could Finally End
Saving dogs was only the first step.
Keeping them safe required something more.
Space.
So Bruno built it.
The first rescue ranch became home to around 200 dogs.
Then came a second.
Larger.
Able to hold hundreds more.
Today, nearly 850 dogs live under his care.
Each one with a name.
Each one with a past.
Each one once overlooked.
Some arrived injured.
Some malnourished.
Some carrying scars from cruelty.
All were given the same thing:
Time.
Patience.
Dignity.
What Freedom Looks Like Now
At the ranches, life is different.
No cages.
No constant confinement.
Dogs run.

For Bruno, this isn’t about counting rescues.
