From Backyard Shadows to a New Life: Ivy’s Fight to Survive and Be Loved

A fragile life hiding in the bushes

A young girl was visiting her grandmother when she noticed something moving quietly in the backyard. At first, she thought it was just a shadow. But as she looked closer, she realized it was a dog — thin, trembling, barely standing.

The little dog was wandering alone in the elderly woman’s yard, too weak to run, too scared to approach anyone. The girl filmed her and immediately contacted us. The moment we saw the video, our hearts dropped. This was not just a stray — this was a life on the edge of disappearing.

When we arrived, Ivy was gone.

For a few terrifying minutes, we searched everywhere. Then one of our volunteers spotted her — curled up inside a bush, hiding from the world that had already hurt her so badly.

A body destroyed by starvation

When we finally reached her, the truth was overwhelming.

Ivy was not thin.
She was starved.

Six months of neglect had turned her into something that barely resembled a dog. Her tiny body looked more like the fragile skeleton of a baby bird than a living animal. Every bone was visible. Her skin was covered in infected sores. Her eyes told a story of suffering no creature should ever have to endure.

There was no excuse for what had happened to her.

When we placed food in front of her, Ivy didn’t rush forward. She stared at it for a long moment, confused — as if she had never seen real food before. Then slowly, carefully, she began to eat.

That moment alone broke our hearts.

The hidden illness inside her

At the veterinary clinic, more bad news arrived.
Ivy tested positive for Babesiosis, a deadly blood parasite that attacks red blood cells and can kill a dog if untreated.

She was so weak that a blood transfusion was needed just to give her a chance to survive.

After a medicated bath, the dirt, infection, and layers of suffering were slowly washed away. But her fight had only just begun.

Everyone — vets, nurses, volunteers — stood beside her, doing everything possible to keep her alive.

A frightened soul begins to trust

The very next day, something incredible happened.

Ivy was still weak… but she was trying.

She was less afraid.
She lifted her head more.
She ate with a little more strength.

Within days, her body began responding.
She gained weight — more than 2 kilograms, reaching 7.65 kg. Every bite of chicken dinner became part of her survival.

When she ate, her eyes softened.
For the first time, Ivy wasn’t just surviving — she was healing.

Leaving the clinic for the first time

After just seven days, Ivy was strong enough to leave the veterinary clinic.

When she saw the volunteers waiting for her, she wagged her tail so hard it was impossible to ignore. She looked shocked — as if she couldn’t believe that all of this kindness was real.

Her life had already changed.

She climbed into our happy bus — not to go back to the streets, but toward a future she had never known.

A forever home across the sea

Ivy was boarding a plane to the United Kingdom, where her new godmother was waiting.
A home.
A warm bed.
A life without fear.

Now Ivy is no longer hiding in bushes or starving in silence.
She is loved.
She is safe.
She belongs.

From a skeleton in a forgotten backyard to a cherished family member across the world — Ivy’s journey is proof that even the most broken lives can be rewritten when compassion steps in.

And this time… Ivy will never be alone again. 🐾
